Welcome to Lily's and Chris' Page! Our beautiful daughter Lily came into this world silently on 10 February 2009 - her death devastated our family but when Lily's Grandma Chris saw an advert in the Catholic papers for CAFOD Candlelight Funds something pulled at her, and she set up Candlelight Fund up in Lily's name. Chris' mission to make the world a better place began.... Chris worked tirelessly to raise funds painting the most amazing pictures of her favourite places and making cards - her enthusiasm and love of CAFOD was infectious and soon the whole of the family were doing something for Lily's fund from jam making to Marathon running to making soft toys! We had stalls at our local school's Summer and Christmas fayres, Chris opened her house to her parish and neighbours every summer for a 'Cuppa for CAFOD' where she made the most amazing scones and Frank (Lily's Grandad and Chris' husband) sold his fabulous, yummy jams and chutney. Lily's light started spreading and soon our extended Family and friends, even our Scout group, joined in raising money for Lily's fund! When Teddy (Lily's younger brother) was born - he set upon a mission to make the world a happier place and instead of Baptismal presents he had donations to Lily's fund! Chris decided that this still wasn't enough, so she joined the CAFOD schools volunteer group - drawing on her skills as a retired primary school teacher and set about spreading the word with her amazing assemblies! It was Chris' passion - a passion to always do the right thing by others and a passion she carried on living for. In Sept 2021, Chris was diagnosed with stage 4 advanced Lung Cancer - which as a non-smoker and someone who had never been ill in her life - was a terrible shock - despite this Chris' love for CAFOD never waned - she bought the family CAFOD world gifts for Christmas, Easter and birthdays when she felt too ill to go out - she printed out cards of her paintings - designed all the labels for Frank's Jam! Lily's Fund was always on her mind - even in her final days she was coming up with ideas on how to make Lily's Fund bigger and better and how to spread the word on the amazing work CAFOD do. Chris sadly lost her earth life on the early hours of Sunday 6th November 2022. She slipped quietly out of the door and into Heaven in true Chris style, never making a fuss and always thinking of others. Chris' biggest and greatest wish was that Lily's light continues to shine as brightly as ever. Our world is less fortunate for not having Chris in it BUT Heaven is brighter than ever! and Chris is now reunited with Our little Lily and together, they will be watching us and beaming with pride at the phenomenal work that CAFOD will be doing in their names! Thank you so so much for your donation and helping keep Our Lily along with her wonderful Grandma Chris, memory alive. Chris and Lily didn't die, they live on, shining as brightly as ever in our hearts and the hearts of the hundreds of thousands of people they have helped because of your generosity. With much love to you all, Lily and Chris' family Katherine, Frank, Ian, Jack, Emily, Will and Teddy. Peter, Amanda, Sophie and Xavier When we discovered our beautiful baby Lily had died our world changed forever…. Our hopes and dreams for her and our family faded, there was a huge dark void left. Lily's Grandparents had heard about CAFOD's Candlelight funds decided to set one up in her memory and that candle started to shine - dull at first but as time went on it got brighter and brighter. Lily’s fund has become her, Lily lives on in this world through her fund. It’s a celebration of her life – Lily didn’t get to live the life we so wanted for her but because of her, thousands of babies and children have had the chance to have that life and in turn, thousands of parents and grandparents have their children with them alive and healthy. Lily has changed the world, our world, into a better place and will continue to do so and it is a privilege to call her our daughter and grandaughter, sister and twin..... and it’s a privilege to belong to the CAFOD family who have given so much support to our family and have helped us to find the light in the darkness…… Thank you so much joining us in our quest to make the world a happier place and for keeping her memory alive and shining brightly……. With much love, Katherine and Ian (Lily’s parents), Chris and Frank (Lily’s Grandparents) Jack, Emily, Will (Lily’s twin) and Teddy (Lily’s brothers and sister)
